Agnes T. Smith, 94, of Downingtown, formerly of Havertown, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Paoli Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late William E. Smith, Sr., with whom she shared almost 44 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Hamilcar and Theresa Julianna DeLeo.
Agnes was an avid gardener, was very talented in arts and crafts, and had a beautiful singing voice. She was a long-time resident of Downingtown, a former parishioner at St. Elizabeth Church in Chester Springs and current parishioner at St. Joseph Church in Downingtown. She was very active at both churches, serving as a Eucharistic Minister as well as other committees. Agnes was an employee of Roy F Weston before retiring after 15 years of service. She was a wonderful homemaker, raising a large family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by seven children, Barbara S. (Richard) Cogshall, William E. (Sue) Smith, Jr., Kenneth R. (Kathryn) Smith, Monica M. (Rick) Femovich, Christopher E. Smith, Lorraine M. (Hank) Geiling and Theresa A. (David) Sudjian; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Smith-Palombit; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Agnes was predeceased by a son, Richard G. Smith and by two brothers, Edward and Gerald DeLeo.
A visitation will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Avenue, Downingtown followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m..
Interment will be held privately with the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Melanoma Foundation International, 170 Mapleflower Road, Glenmoore, Pa 19343 or to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19104.
