William F. Gilchrist, Jr.

William F. Gilchrist, Jr., 87, of Coatesville, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Harrison House.  He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Hutton Gilchrist, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late William F. Gilchrist, Sr. and A. Frances Burns Gilchrist.

William proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Kansas, England and Morocco.   He worked as an inspector for Unysis for 26 yrs. He then went onto work with IS&S in Malvern for 6 yrs before retiring in 1996. 

He was the director and founder of the West Chester Chordbusters Barbershop Chorus where he was an active member for 45 yrs. Then went on to direct the Pretzel City Barbershop Chorus in Reading for several years. 

He also enjoyed auto racing and went to many tracks throughout the years. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Karen Holmes (Brian Oswald), Deb J. McDaniels(Lloyd), W. Kevin Gilchrist and Gary L. Gilchrist (Jennifer).  He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Andrea, Ryan, Darren, Erin, Morgan, Kyle, Alyssa and Brady and by his four great grandchildren, Peyton, Alex, Reece and Amelia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown.  Family and friends will be received from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Interment will be in Green Mount Cemetery, West Chester.
