William J. Dunn Sr.

William J. Dunn, Sr., 80, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at his home.  He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude M. Fuller Dunn, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2018.

Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late John H. and Helen M. Higgins Dunn.

William graduated from Scott High School in 1957 and worked as a butcher for Super Fresh before retiring in 2002.  After retirement, he worked part-time as a bus driver for Handi Crafters.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army as Military Police during the Vietnam Era.

Mr. Dunn was a devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Downingtown.  He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed fishing and playing poker.

He is survived by his son, William J. Dunn, Jr. of Coatesville; his daughter, Christine E. Dunn of West Chester; a granddaughter, Jennifer Mortzfield and her husband Corey; two great grandchildren, Callie and Travis Mortzfield and by a host of nieces and nephews.  Mr. Dunn was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2019 at St. Joseph Church, 332 Manor Avenue, Downingtown.  Family and friends will be received from 9-10:45 a.m.

Interment will be held privately at a later date in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Coatesville.
