Wilfred B. “Jim” Rainey, 83, of Glenmoore, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Jean L. Dowlin Rainey, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
Born in Glen Campbell, Pa, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Rainey and Ethel Marie Connor Rainey.
Jim joined the Williamson Masonic Lodge #309 in Downingtown in 1988 and then transferred to the Brandywine-Goddard Masonic Lodge #383 in Coatesville. He worked for the Downingtown Water Department for 21 years before retiring in 1995.
He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved watching his son, Joe, play baseball and watching his grandchildren play sports. Jim enjoyed completing Seek a Word books, playing cards and games and being outside at family parties. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling with his best friends, Tom and Ethel.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his three children, David Ruffner, Joseph T. Rainey, and Patricia J. Greenland and her husband Tim; two grandchildren, Jordan N. Thomas and Jennifer Ruffner; and by two great grandchildren, Amari S. Thomas and Leo E. Thomas. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Rainey, a sister, Lois Smith and by a host of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Brandon E. Thomas; four brothers, James, Charles, Benjamin and Donald Rainey; and by two sisters, Eileen Lohr and Alvassa Hopkins.
An evening viewing will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, Downingtown.
A morning viewing will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2023 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown.
Interment will be private with the family.
