Vernon J. "Ernie" Jameson

March 24, 1929 ~ December 3, 2021 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Vernon J Jameson (Ernie), 92, of Downingtown PA, went to be with his Lord on Dec.3. Born in Pottstown PA, he was the son of the late Frederick Jameson and Ann Trace Jameson. Ernie graduated from Downingtown High School, class of 1947. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving in Korea for 2 years, a life member of the local VFW and a member of the American Legion.

As a faithful member of Windsor Baptist Church in Eagle PA, Ernie served on the Board of trustees. He was the beloved husband to wife Nell for 67 years, father to James and Kelly and grandfather to Rachael. Ernie’s faith was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Ernie began his work with the hardware store at the age of 14. Many years later he retired from his own hardware business. After selling V.J. Jameson & Son, he was employed by the Downingtown Borough in the code office for 20 years.

Ernie Served on the Board of Directors of DNB Bank for 30 years, was a member of the Downingtown Area School Board for 12 years, and served on the AAA Mid-Atlantic Advisory Board in West Chester. He served on the Board of Managers to the Northwood Cemetery which is a public cemetery. As president of the Downingtown Area Historical Society, located in the Ashbridge House, he made improvements to the building, installed a powder room on the first floor and refurbished a room on the second floor where cataloged documents and artifacts could be safely stored.

The Downingtown Rotary Club presented him with the Gundaker Award and he was awarded the ‘Downingtown Citizen of the Year’ in 1987. He was a long-time member of Mt. Pickering Masonic Lodge #446 in Upper Uwchland, PA and a founding member of the East Brandywine Fire Co.

Any time during a 28 year period one could find Ernie peeling potatoes in The Coffee Cup in Downingtown at 4am. He was a member of the Chester County Antique Car club and enjoyed his collection of antique cars.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Nell; son, Jim and his wife, Jenn; granddaughter, Rachael; and special nephew, Joel Hayes. He is survived by his 2 sisters, Beatrice Dankanich and Mary Jane Burns both of Downingtown. In addition to his parents, Ernie was predeceased by his precious daughter, Kelly; 5 brothers, Harvey, Fred, Donald, Theodore and Kenneth; and 1 sister, Frances Touchton.

All funeral services were private.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Hickory House Nursing Home for the wonderful care provided to Ernie.
