Vernon E. Evans, 87, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Chester County Hospital.
He was the husband of Patricia B. Evans, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.
He was born in West Chester, and was the son of the late Truman Y. Evans and Mary Christie Evans.
He graduated from West Chester High. He served four years in the Navy during the Korean War. He earned the following medals; National Defense, Korean (one star), United Nations, Good Conduct, and the Korean War Service Medal, authorized by Syngman Rhee, President of the Republic of Korea.
He was a damage controlman 2nd class (DC2). He worked for Bishop Tube Co., for 34 ½ years. He later worked for McCorquodale Inc. for 4 years.
Vernon is survived by his 5 children; Ronald S. Evans, of Downingtown, M. Diane Walker, of Downingtown, David M. Evans, of Downingtown, Laura E. Hisler, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Sharon E. Heideck, of Alpharetta, GA, 5 grandchildren, and sister Evelyn Dasiey of Wilmington, DE.
He was a member of the VFW Post 845 of Downingtown, and also a member of The Model “T” Ford Club of America. He was also a member of the USS Bellatrix AKA-3 Association. He enjoyed working on and driving his model “T” Fords. Vernon enjoyed summer vacations with his family in Ocean City, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to Vernon’s funeral service on Saturday, at 11am October 6, 2018, at James J Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335, visitation will be 10am-10:50am. Burial will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery.
