Susan Lee Shrum

Susan (Lee) Shrum, 80, of Downingtown, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at her home.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Howard Sr. and Marie (McCormick) Lee. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Shrum who passed away in 2016.

Susan graduated from West Chester University and was a Physical Education teacher in the Downingtown Area School District for more than 30 years, until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of Whitford Country Club, and a leader in the Lionville Youth Association, having started LYA’s first Girl’s Field Hockey league, which then became the school’s first State Hockey Champions. She was very active with the Downingtown Recreation Department having spent much of her energy developing and improving their park system. Susan also was elected as Judge of Elections in her district. She enjoyed golf, tennis, bridge, and her many, many friends.

Susan is survived by her children: Jody Shrum (Glen McCoon) of East Fallowfield Township, Beth Shrum (Todd Lutte) of Jim Thorpe, PA; 5 grandchildren: Zachary, Reagan, Sage, Daisy, and Skye; brother: Howard Lee and his wife Kaye; sister-in-law: Karen Miyares, and son-in-law: Bill Wittorff.

In addition to her parents and husband, Susan was preceded in death by her daughter: Amy (Shrum) Wittorff in 2020.

Services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
