Marilyn E. DeSalvatore

August 6, 1935 ~ September 18, 2022 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Marilyn E. DeSalvatore, 87, of Exton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at ProMedica Rehab in Exton after a one week stay at Chester County Hospital.

Born in Bloomsburg, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Blanche C. Girton Shaffer.

Marilyn attended Bloomsburg University with an interest in theatre and fashion design.  She went on to work for Strawbridge & Clothier more than 25 years.  She loved Ocean City, New Jersey, where she worked as a young girl and most of her wonderful memories were made there.  Marilyn was an avid sports fan, especially her beloved Eagles, Phillies and Sixers.  She enjoyed painting, was a wonderful needle-pointer and because of her PA Dutch roots, made many amazing meals, including chicken pot pie and various stews.

She truly loved her grandfather, Cleese Byron Girton, who helped design the exhibition buildings at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds and was the caretaker for the Caleb Barton family and groundkeeper at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds, where Marilyn spent many years.  It brings happiness to the family, knowing Marilyn and her grandfather are now reunited again.

Marilyn had a dry whit sense of humor and she will be deeply missed by her family and the friends she made at the Potter Building in Eagleview.  She absolutely adored her children and grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by her four daughters, Deborah Drayton, Suzen DeSalvatore (Erik), Cherie Ferrantello (Pete) and Rebecca DeSalvatore (Brooke); four grandchildren, Eric Groff, Tyler DeSalvatore, Niko Ferrantello and Gabrielle Ferrantello; a nephew, Mark Lemon and by a niece, Merrilee Whitney.  She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Lemon.

Services will be private with the family.  Marilyn will take one last trip to Ocean City, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Running Strong for American Indian Youth.

The family would like to thank the amazing and loving nurses and staff at ProMedica and Willow Tree Hospice for their love and gentleness they gave our mother.
