Joyce Colleen Libes

Joyce Colleen (Williams) Libes, 89, of Downingtown, PA, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Chester County Hospital, West Chester, PA.

Born in Indianapolis, IN, Joyce was the daughter of the late Karl Benjamin and Marceil (Evans) Williams. She was the wife of Leonard L. Libes who preceded her in death. Joyce retired from the Delaware County School Corporation after many years teaching 1st Grade at Eaton Elementary School, Eaton, IN. She was a 5th generation member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Muncie, IN and more recently a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Exton, PA. Joyce was active in both church congregations. Joyce was a member of the Chester County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women, the Delaware County (Indiana) and Friends of Beech Grove Historic and Preservation Project. Joyce had volunteered at the Coatesville VA Medical Center where she was active until the pandemic. She was an avid genealogist and had published several books on her family history and was active in multiple genealogy groups. Joyce was politically active and stayed informed on all aspects of our Government.

Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Valerie (Mark) Schroeder, Andrea (Ron) Hall, Stephanie (Chris) Cole and 6 grandchildren; Karl, Neil, Meredith, Andrew, Alex, and Colleen.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 6-8 PM at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 104 S. Village Ave., Exton, PA. The family requests that all guests in attendance wear face coverings regardless of vaccination status.
