John David Contento

John David Contento, 72, of Thorndale, passed away peacefully after an extensive illness the morning of June 16, 2019 at Riddle Hospital. He was the loving husband of Susan Contento (nee Bavusa) for 26 years of marriage, and the son of the late John and Josephine Contento (nee Tesori).

Born in Cortland, NY on February 22, 1947, John graduated from Cortland Junior Senior High School in 1965 and was inducted into their Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2016. John was an accomplished athlete in many sports, but his passion was football. He was most known for playing quarterback in college where he was one broken hand away from being drafted as a professional quarterback. In 1969, John graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In 1979, John was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

John had a long-standing career in Manufacturing Management. He participated on many administrative boards within his community. In 2012, John was elected Commissioner of Caln Township where he served six and one-half years, a position that he took great pride in.

He and his wife Susan traveled extensively throughout the United States and several continents. John prepared for each trip by learning the local language and currency.

In addition to his wife, Susan, John is survived and remembered by; his children, Lisa (Joseph) Luckanish, Tollie Contento, Rita (Michael) Hutchinson, Dennis (Antonia) Frattarola; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Deborah) Contento, Terrance (Sharon) Contento and his sister Linda (Richard) Schmidt, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 24, 2019 at Saint Joseph Church 332 Manor Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335. A visitation will be held prior from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s honor can be made to the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Company. In addition, a scholarship will be established in John’s name at Cortland Junior Senior High School.
