Joan “Sis” (Tipton) Salluzzo, 80, of Lancaster, formerly of Chester County, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in West Chester, Joan was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Mabel R. (Thompson) Tipton. She was the beloved wife of Joseph E. Salluzzo, Sr., with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.

Following her graduation from Unionville High School in 1959, Joan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  She would later enjoy a long and successful career as a Senior Buyer for Bulova Technologies at their Lancaster headquarters.

Joan had an inimitable spirit.  She was admired for her honesty, her intelligence and her resilience. She was deeply compassionate and loved animals.  She leaves behind her two Schnauzer daughters, Abby and Freddie, who provided her with years of joy and companionship. She also leaves behind E.T., a box turtle that had taken up residence in her backyard 3 years ago and who has never left.

Joan was a nature enthusiast who loved gardening and cultivating her flower beds each year.  Among her favorite places to visit were Longwood Gardens and Middle Creek.

Joan was both curious and creative.  She was an exceptional photographer who captured and catalogued a wealth of endearing images and memories through the lens of her camera.  She enjoyed watercolor painting, Broadway musicals, attending the symphony and travel.  She was an exceptional cook who enjoyed hosting dinners in her home and the challenge of preparing recipes pulled straight from the pages of Bon Appetit. To find yourself on the receiving end of an invite to one of these affairs was truly a gift.

She was sophisticated and elegant.  Her beautiful ash blonde hair, French manicure, stylish dress and perfect tan always commanded your attention when she entered a room. But above all, we will miss the boldness with which she lived her life.  Joan was a truth-teller in a world where truth (these days) can be hard to come by.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her son Joe Salluzzo, Jr., husband of Martina, of Croatia, and daughter Sarah Salluzzo, partner of Jonina Turzi, of Lancaster. She is also survived by her twin brother Edward Tipton, Jr. and sisters Barbara Keehn and Janet Drozdowski; grandchildren Stephanie, Justin, Klara, Ana, Vito and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Charlotte, and Savannah.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly Rovetto, sister Linda Tipton and grandson Gabriel Rovetto.
