Joan H. (nee McCormick) Pennell, 82, of West Chester, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Chester County Hospital.
She was the beloved wife of the late John W. Pennell, Sr., with whom she shared 34 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1991.
Born and raised in West Chester, Joan was the daughter of the late Percy H. and Helen (nee Conahan) McCormick and was a 1953 graduate of St. Agnes High School.
She worked for 19 years as an Administrative Assistant for the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce, retiring in 1998.
Joan was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Church, former Treasurer for the Mary Taylor House where she served on the resident council. She was a volunteer at St. Agnes Church, West Chester Senior Center and Meals on Wheels. Joan’s pride and joy was spending time with her family, especially the holidays, sporting events and the Cavalcade of Bands competition.
Joan is survived by her six children, Robert J. (Jeanne) Pennell, James T. Pennell, Maureen P. Dukes (William), John W. (Susan) Pennell, Jr., Kathleen J. Wampler (Kevin) and Ruthanne E. Hinderling (Michael). She is also survived by her sister, Patricia A. Holahan; eleven grandchildren, Erin Pennell, Amanda Osher, Eric, Andrew and Jessica Dukes, Samantha Pennell, Josh and Christopher Wampler, Colleen Tarr, Dean and Madison Hinderling; and four great grandchildren, Emma, Madilyn, Abigial and Olivia Osher. In addition to her husband and parents, Joan is predeceased by her grandson, John W. Pennell, III, brother James F. McCormick and sister Anne M. Pennell.
A visitation for Joan will be held on Saturday, October 13th from 9 to 10:15 am at St. Agnes Church, 223 W. Gay Street, West Chester, followed by her Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 am. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.
