James H. Hudson

James H. Hudson, 78, of Coatesville, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at his home.  He was the beloved husband of Judith Blair Hudson, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.  He was the father of William B. (Alexandra N. Murray), and grandfather of Margaret B. Hudson.

Born in Reading, Pa, he was the son of the late William C. and Lucy Orlando Hudson.

A graduate of St. Joseph’s (B.A.) and Villanova (M.A.), Jim taught English for 41 years; 36 of them at Coatesville High School.  He served as the debate coach, advisor to the yearbook, and taught AP English.  Jim was a mentor, who not only inspired his students to reach their highest potential, but who kept in touch with them for years afterwards.  He was an inspiration to so many young people.

Jim began his career in the 1960’s, teaching middle school English to students of the caliber of Lillian DeBaptiste and Judge David Bortner.  In 1968, he began his 36 years teaching AP English, Public Speaking and Yearbook Journalism to entire generations of Coatesville Students: Martini, Nowak, Bonsall, Rabin, Primanti and so many, many others.

Mr. Hudson was also a patron of the arts, attending operas at the Met in NYC each season, as well as subscribing to the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Walnut Street Theater.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Yeo and Dr. James Posey, both of Jefferson University Hospital.  Also, Neighborhood Hospice, Bryn Mawr Rehab, and Home Instead, who befriended Jim during his illness.

An evening visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Friday, November 30, 2018 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, COATESVILLE.  A time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m.  All of you who would like to share a story about Jim are encouraged to do so.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 1060 W, Lincoln Highway, COATESVILLE.  Family and friends will be received from 9:00-10:45 a.m.

FOR SATURDAY'S SERVICE, EVERYONE MUST COME FROM THE AIRPORT ROAD SIDE (FROM THE WEST) OF COATESVILLE.  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS OUR FUNERAL HOME FROM THE CITY OF COATESVILLE SIDE (FROM THE EAST) DUE TO THE CHRISTMAS PARADE.

Interment will be private with the family in Gethsemane Cemetery, Reading, Pa.
