Ian Brett Luebbers, 24, of Downingtown, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 11, 2019. Born in West Chester, he was the beloved son of Robert L. and Laura O’Donnell Luebbers.
Ian was a 2013 graduate of Bishop Shanahan High School, where he played soccer and ran track. He went on to attend Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota where he studied physics, played soccer and spent a semester studying abroad at Oxford University. Ian won multiple National and Regional Championships throughout his incredible Irish dancing career including the All Ireland’s, All Scotland’s and NAFC Championships. The highlight of his career was winning the 2018 World Championship in Glasgow, Scotland. He also performed with Riverdance for Pope Francis when the pope visited Dublin, Ireland. Ian had a brilliant mind, was a superb athlete, passionate dancer, avid reader and incredibly gifted writer. He was boundlessly creative, relentlessly curious and had his own unique and wonderful wit. Ian had many accomplishments but it was never about that for him. What he cared most about was the journey, the impact and the connections that he made along the way. As a result, he was an inspiration to many. He always remained humble and his quick wit and easy smile will be sorely missed and always remembered.
In addition to his parents, Ian is survived by his sister, Cassidy C. and brother, Owen A.; his maternal grandparents, Sandra Botson and Richard O’Donnell; and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
