Elma Pierce

Elma Pierce, 96, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2, 2020 at St. Martha Manor.  She was the beloved wife of the late Norman Luther Pierce, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2009.

Born in Willistown Twp., she was the daughter of the late David J. Steele, Sr. and Blanch V. Reed Steele. After her mother’s passing in 1929 she was raised by a loving stepmother, Iva Cloud Steele.

Elma worked as a telephone operator for West Chester State Teachers College before becoming a full-time homemaker.

She loved to entertain and was extremely hospitable.  Elma had a giving nature and a wonderful sense of humor.

Elma loved the Lord and was very spiritual. Throughout her life she attended many churches; most recently worshipping at Windsor Baptist Church.

Elma is survived by her daughters, Nancy P. Nickerson (David C.) and Barbara “Babs” Dilworth.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carrie Sue Kelly (Daniel), Becky Nickerson, Kelly Nickerson, Charles Nickerson, David Jones (Jennifer), and Kathy Landis (Henry); a beloved niece, June Steele Jones and by many great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her siblings, David J. Steele, Jr., Norman J. Steele, and Sara Pearl Klossman.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2020 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown.  Family and friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, King of Prussia.
