Elizabeth “Betty” Gilchrist, 91, of Coatesville, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Harrison House. She was the loving wife of William F. Gilchrist, Jr., who passed away in 2020.

Born in Philadelphia on March 7, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William Earl and Kate (Merkel) Hutton. Betty graduated from West Chester High School. She went on to raise her four children, and worked as an Avon Representative for 24 years. Betty loved to journal, recording details in her lifetime that her family will enjoy reading about for years to come. Since 12 years old, she was a pen pal to many, sharing numerous stories and letters back and forth. Betty collected thousands of post cards, spoons and bells, and she enjoyed crafting Decoupage. One of her favorite pastimes was heading to the Jersey Shore with “the girls”.

Surviving are her children Karen Holmes (Brian Oswald), Deb McDaniels (Lloyd), W. Kevin Gilchrist and Gary Gilchrist (Jennifer); grandchildren Andrea, Ryan, Darren, Erin, Morgan, Kyle, Alyssa and Brady; great grandchildren Peyton, Alex, Reece and Amelia; and a sister Dorothy Rieger.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 1 PM at James Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335. Visitation will be from 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Green Mount Cemetery, West Chester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Betty to Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main St, Parkesburg, PA 19365.
