Edward W. Kolar Jr.

Edward Warren Kolar, Jr. died peacefully surrounded by his family on October 6, 2018 in Paoli, PA at the age of 85.

Ed is survived by his 8 children Edward III (Sudabeh), Steven, Robert, Michael (Beth), Garret, Erik (Christine), Kristin Walton (Craig), Karen Gardner (Geof), and 19 grandchildren who loved him very much.  He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen Augusta Kolar and loving parents, Edward Warren, Sr. and Edith Marie Kolar.

Ed was born on September 2, 1933 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Edward Warren, Sr. and Edith Marie Kolar. He graduated from Saint Louis University High School and continued on to Saint Louis University where he graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Business.   He married fellow Air Force Officer, Ellen Augusta Saftenberger in 1958 in Abilene, TX and they shared a loving marriage for 29 years until her untimely death.  He held corporate marketing positions with Coca-Cola and Campbells Soup Company in Missouri, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.  Thereafter, he began a career in Commercial Real Estate in 1978 which included establishing his own commercial real estate brokerage firm, Sterling Properties. 

In his early years, he served proudly in the United States Air Force as a Captain in the Strategic Air Command at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX.  For many years, he was an active member of SS. Phillip and James parish in Exton, PA where he served as a Lector.  He enjoyed coaching soccer, his favorite sport, for Lionville Youth Association.  He was an avid cook and gardener, a voracious reader, a lover of jazz and Woodford Reserve, and had many fond memories of camping with his young family.  His greatest pleasure and source of pride in life was raising his 8 children. He will be fondly remembered for his patriotism, keen sense of humor, worldly outlook, and his fun-loving, positive spirit.  

A Visitation (9:15 AM -10:45 AM) and Memorial Service (11:00 AM) is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 2018 at James J. Terry Funeral Home, Downingtown, PA, with a reception to follow.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ed’s abundant life.
