Catherine Eileen McCardell

Catherine Eileen McCardell, 92, formerly of Downingtown, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Freedom Village at Brandywine.

Born in Downingtown, Eileen was the daughter of the late William Bayard and Kathryne (Tyson) Wharry. She married her best friend, Kenneth Richard McCardell, in 1951, and they were devoted to each other for 61 years. 

Eileen was a beloved kindergarten teacher in Downingtown area schools for approximately 40 years, and she remembered every child she taught. At birth, she became a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Downingtown, and actively enjoyed her membership there for 92 years.  She loved singing in the choir.  Eileen and Kenny traveled the world, especially enjoying yearly fishing trips in Canada.  She had a deep admiration for Pennsylvania and everything the Commonwealth had to offer.

Eileen is survived by her beloved grandchildren: Jennifer Green, Rebecca Vigue, Kenneth McCardell III, and Kevin McCardell; great-grandchildren: Brennan, Mac, Clara, Sam, and Kate; daughter-in-law Melinda Higgins McCardell.

Eileen was preceded in death by the love of her life, Kenny, in 2012, her two sons Wm. Michael McCardell and Kenneth Richard “Rick” McCardell in 2004, and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Kenny McCardell in 2010.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 8, 2022 at Central Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Uwchlan Ave., Downingtown.
