Arthur Wells Hunt passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at the age of eighty-five at Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville, PA. Arthur was born on March 14, 1934, in Washington, DC, to the late Wells Elton Hunt and Frances Elizabeth (Ward) Hunt. They lived in Severna Park, MD, while he was in elementary school and later moved to the Philadelphia area where he graduated from Norristown High School. Arthur earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University in 1956. He spent much of his career in the field of geothermal heating and cooling, founding installation and manufacturing companies, and later consulting on design engineering.
Arthur was an avid sailor all his life, having developed that passion sailing a Chesapeake Bay log canoe on the Severn River as a child with his family; the log canoe is now on exhibit at the Maritime Museum in Saint Michaels, MD. He cherished his time and friendships at the Liberty Sailing Club in Philadelphia and served as the club’s Commodore in 2006. Arthur was admired for his sense of humor and wit. Music was an important part of his life, and he enjoyed playing multiple instruments, especially the piano.
Arthur lived his final years in Downingtown, PA, and enjoyed spending time at his daughter’s farm nearby. He was predeceased by his brother, Wells E. Hunt, Jr., formerly of Yarmouthport, MA, and his ex-wife Barbara J. Hunt formerly of Lake Ariel, PA. He is survived by his sister Patricia H. Marks of Princeton, NJ; his daughter Rebecca A. Hunt of Coatesville, PA; and by his son Timothy W. Hunt, daughter-in-law Natasha M. Simkovich, grandchildren Quentin G. Hunt, Oliver A. Hunt, and Ella H. Hunt of Seattle, WA.
