June 1, 1923 ~ March 2, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old
Angelo Gramiccioni, 93, of Downingtown, PA, previously of Bound Brook, Somerset, Whitehouse, Clinton, NJ, and Port Saint Lucie, FL passed away peacefully on March 2, 2017 at the Paoli Memorial Hospital in Paoli, PA three months shy of his 94th birthday. His daughter MaryAnn was at his side at the time of death. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 1, 1923 he was the son of Severino and Anna Gramiccioni of Bound Brook, NJ. He has an older sister, Mary now deceased; a younger brother Nicholas living in Manahawkin, NJ; and a younger sister, Rose, living in Middlesex, NJ.
Angelo married the late Valentina Mulligan of South Bound Brook on January 16, 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy on July 2, 1942, served during World War II on the USS Shea (DD-750), the USS Glennon (DD-840), the USS Montpelier (CL-57), and the USS Vulcan (AR-5). He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945 as a Gunner’s Mate 1st Class. He was seriously wounded during at least one of the Naval operations. Upon leaving the US Navy he worked as a chauffeur and caretaker on the HeatherHolm estate of Mr. Arthur Fenton Hetherington in Somerset, NJ. He worked on the estate until June 1972 when the estate was dissolved. He had other interim jobs on several estates primarily for DeCoursey Fales and later Peter Detweiler, both in Pottersville, NJ, ultimately gaining employment at the Somerset Hospital, now Medical Center on May 26, 1981. Angelo worked at the hospital until his retirement on June 3, 1988. He then took another caretaker position working for Ann and Edward David at Hoopstick Farm in Bedminster, NJ, until he chose to fully retire. From that point Angelo and his beloved wife, Valentina, lived their summers in Clinton, NJ and winters in Port Saint Lucie, FL enjoying each other until she passed away on February 24, 2004. Family was central to their lives and he continued that tradition after the passing of his beloved spouse.
Angelo Gramiccioni has a lasting legacy in his remaining family: Sam Gramiccioni and his wife Trisha of Ellsworth, ME; John Gramiccioni and his wife Kathy of Baltimore, MD; Joe Gramiccioni and his wife Fran of Delaware Township, NJ; and Donald and MaryAnn Neblock (nee Gramiccioni) of Downingtown, PA. His greatest joy was in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sharon Gramiccioni, deceased daughter of Sam and first grandchild; Chris and Greg, sons of John and Kathy; Michael and Tim, sons of Joe and Fran; and Jeffrey and Emily; son and daughter of MaryAnn and Donald.
He also had many nieces and nephews and several great grandchildren: Noah, Layla, Sarabeth, Ila, Cole, Tyler, Hailey, Carter, and Ellie.
We wish you “Fair Winds and Following Seas” as you reunite with your love, Valentina, and the rest of the family. You are already sorely missed.
