Michael Bertha

Michael Bertha, 49, of Downingtown, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Chester County Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Lori L. Bertha, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage.

Born in Bronxville, NY, he was the loving son of Dorothy J. Sabanosh Bertha of Yorktown Heights, NY, and the late Michael G. Bertha, who passed away in 2010.

He was a 1982 graduate of Yorktown High School and a 1986 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.   He then served his country in the U. S. Army as a commissioned 1st Lieutenant for four years.

Mr. Bertha was employed by the 7-Eleven Corporation for 8 years, the past 5 years of which he served as the Market Manager for Southern New Jersey.  With his strong foundation in 7-Eleven Operations, he also partnered with the Asset Protection Organization throughout his tenure as a Market Manager.  Prior to that, he worked for Exxon Mobil as a territory manager as well as construction, maintenance, environmental engineering and sales/operations for 14 years.

Michael was a former director of football for the Marsh Creek Eagles.  He also coached for LYA and was a former board member as well as a member of the baseball committee.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his sons, Michael R. and Patrick R., both of Downingtown.  He is also survived by his sister, Michele B. Villano (Robert), and father-in-law, Roger A. Cowan, all of Yorktown Heights; and by nieces and nephew, Daniele A. Racanelli (Rob), Gabriele A. and Nickolas R. Villano.

A Life Celebration will be held from 3 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 17th, at Brickside Grille, 540 Wellington Square (Eagleview), Exton.  Interment will be private.
