William E. Syms

William E. Syms , 88, of Coatesville passed away peacefully the evening of October 8, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia to the late William J. Syms and Laura Kane, he was the loving husband of 62 years to Phyllis Winnemore. He was a graduate of Collingdale High School Class of 1949.

After high school William proudly served his country in the Korean War as Staff Sargent in the U.S. Airforce.

Bill, as he was known by all who knew him, was one of the founding fathers of the Unionville Recreation Association and was a longtime member of the Unionville Grange. An avid Eagles fan, he was proud to watch The Birds win their first Super Bowl championship.

Bill was also known as a man who always dressed his best, loved a good dance, enjoyed vacationing in Ocean City, New Jersey and had a great sense of humor; he was always good for a laugh, even up until his final days.

Most importantly, Bill had a great love for his family and the home they built together. His family was his world and his house was his castle.

In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Bill is survived and loved by his children; son, Kenneth William Syms (Claire); daughters, Susan Joyce Thompson and Pamela Beth Kinckner (Fred); Sisters Carole Boyle (John) Jacquelyn Smith (Steve) and Elaine Gillies; 7 grandchildren, Michael Smith (Grace), Danielle and Bradley Kinckner, and Lucas and Wesley Thompson, Josephine and Destiney Syms, as well as 2 great-grandchildren Aurora and Anakin Smith.

Services for Bill will be held on Monday October 15th, 2018 with services beginning at 11:15 am at the James J. Terry Funeral Home Downingtown, 736 E. Lancaster Ave. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects beginning at 10:00am.
