William H. Sload

William Harry "Bud" Sload, 73, passed away suddenly at Chester County Hospital, West Chester, PA after a brief illness.

Born on September 13th in Coatesville, PA, to the late William L. and Ester I. Sload. Bud grew up in West Chester, PA, and attended Henderson High School, and was later an active firefighter with the First West Chester Fire Company.  

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Karen (Nealis) Sload; son, William Harry “Buddy” Sload, Jr. (Alison); daughter, Mandie Lyn Sload; as well as his two faithful dogs, Ziggy and Brandy. Also surviving are brothers, Richard Sload (Carol) , John Sload (Eileen); sister, Mary Lee  (Robert); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bud was predeceased by sisters, Lois I. Seydel and Esther Bauer (Robert); and brother, Robert Grimsey (Paulette).

Bud wore many hats in life. He was raised as a stucco mason, delivered oil for Sheller Oil, spent countless hours on the road as a truck driver, and established a family-owned and operated snow removal company. He concluded his career as a mechanic for an underground utility company.

Bud and Karen met while Karen attended West Chester University. They enjoyed spending time together at home with their dogs and  traveling in their motor home. Bud loved spending time with his family at various race events, but his true love for racing was centered around his son and best friend as well as the comradery in the pits with his family and friends.  He relished supporting his children in all aspects of their lives. Bud was very proud of his daughter, Mandie and her accomplishments and celebrated their similarities.  Bud had a great sense of humor which he loved to share with everyone he met. He touched the lives of so many who he encountered. When you think of Bud and the memories that you have with him, share them with those surrounding you – and laugh together, because this is what he loved to do with family, friends, and strangers alike.

A funeral service will be held at 5 pm on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA, where family and friends will be received from 3:15 until 4:45 pm.  Interment will be held privately.
