William R. Schell, 84, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 11, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Diane Heckert Schell, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Tower City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John Alton and Mary Lechleitner Schell. He was a graduate of the Williamson Trade School in Media and was employed with Bailey Controls as a sales engineer for over forty years.
Bill was a parishioner at Saint Elizabeth Church in Chester Springs and an active member of the St. Elizabeth Knights of Columbus Council 13141. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with Chester County Assembly #1873 and served as the Color Corps Commander. He was named Knight of the Year in 2004 and in 2013 and Grand Knight in 2010 for his outstanding dedication and service.
He was avid lover of gardening and passed on his passion to his family and friends. Bill enjoyed sitting on his back porch watching the wildlife in his backyard. He loved to cook especially when he could share it with others.
Bill is survived by his 5 children, Marianne (Paul) Woodward, Suzanne (Frank) Tyler, Judith (Thomas) Gregory, William J. (Angela) Schell and Dianne Schell (Kathleen Seitzinger). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Paul and Amy Woodward, Jill Tyler, Brendan, Katherine, Andrew and Benjamin Gregory and Matthew Schell; two great grandchildren, Brianna Woodward Fowler and Adam Owen and by many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the St. Elizabeth Parish community, his fellow Knights of Columbus and their families for their love, support and kindness.
An evening visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Church, 100 St. Elizabeth Drive, Chester Springs.
Interment will be held privately with the family in Hershey Cemetery, Hershey, Pa.
