William C. “Bill” McFarland, 86, of Honey Brook, formerly of Downingtown, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Brandywine Hospital.
Born on May 15th, 1931 in West Chester, Bill was the son of the late James W. and Harriet Bull McFarland.
He was a 1949 graduate of West Chester High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Drexel University.
Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Upon returning from active duty, Bill spent his career at Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville working in the accounting department.
He was a lifelong member of Central Presbyterian Church in Downingtown, where he served as a trustee, deacon and volunteered with Working Guild serving meals.
In March 2016, Bill became a resident of Tel Hai Retirement Community in Honey Brook
Mr. McFarland is survived by two cousins, Rev. Dr. J. Kent Bull, Penney Farms, Florida and Rev. Dr. Kent Ira Groff of Denver, Colorado, and his children, Elizabeth Mary Groff and Kendra Groff Geddes, both of Denver; and James Yung Groff in Etters, Penna.
A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Friday, July 14th at Tel Hai Chapel 1200 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, PA 19344, where family and friends may call from 3:30 to 4 pm.
Interment will be held privately for the family.
The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tel Hai Pastoral Care Fund, at the above address or to Central Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Uwchlan Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335.
