William “Bill” Harry Manuel passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at home in Westtown surrounded by his family.
 
Born on May 13, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late LeRoy Francis Manuel and Mildred Robinson Manuel Clarke.
 
Bill graduated from Haverford High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in the Korean War from December 1952 until October 1954 as Sergeant (T) in the 180th Infantry Regiment and 101st Airborne. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars. Following his service in the Army, Bill had a life-long career at Philadelphia Suburban Water Company (now Aqua PA) serving as Budget Director.  
 
Bill was very active in many service organizations, including the VFW, Chamber of Commerce, Mainline Jaycees, President of the PA JCI Senate, Crew of the SS Fellowship, and Dillsburg American Legion, Post 26, as well as past member of the Northeast River Power Squadron.
 
He was an active golfer and loved going to the movies. For over 50 years, Bill joyously opened his home to celebrate Christmas Eve with many family, friends, and neighbors.
 
Bill is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 63 years, Grace Manuel, and two children: Donald (Susan) Manuel and Vicki Lyon (David Matthew). He was PopPop to two beautiful grandchildren: Rebecca Manuel and Cole Joseph Lyon. 
 
A private service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held for the family.
 
Bill’s family wants to thank everyone for all their love and support, as well as Neighborhood Hospice, Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center, especially Dr. Paula Taylor, MD and her team, and all the many doctors and nurses who cared for him over the years.
 
Memorial contributions in Bill’s honor may be made to Neighborhood Hospice of West Chester, 400 E. Marshall Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
