Walter "Butch" Eden, 72, died April 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and dearest friends at the Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester, PA. The son of Walter and Teresa, Walt was born on March 9, 1945. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School with his sister Gloria. After graduation from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1963 he attended Widener University school of business and was drafted into the Army in 1966. He served in Vietnam from 1966-1968 as a Combat Construction Specialist and was awarded the National Defense Service and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medals.

He married Lauretta MacNamee on March 7, 1970 at the Villanova Cathedral.

From 1969-1972 Walt served in the Army Reserves , was married and finished his college education at Widener night school while working for Westinghouse. His career with Westinghouse continued as the family moved to New Castle, DE where they raised three children before relocating to West Chester in 1988. Walt worked as Maintenance Supervisor at Brian's House until his retirement in 2013.

"Butch"was especially talented with his hands - according to Lauretta "he could fix anything other than a busted balloon". He loved surfcasting , traveling up and down the East Coast in search of fighting fish like blues or stripers. His easygoing demeanor made family gatherings a pleasure. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Masons.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lauretta of West Chester, son Ken of Morgantown (Dana), daughter Heather Dandrea of West Chester (Ray), daughter Kara Hunsicker of Oxford, grandchildren Danny Eden, Kevin Eden, Dean Hunsicker, Sean Hunsicker; sister Gloria Young of Elkton MD (Bob), nieces Barbara Klein (Mark), Debbie Catling (John), Sheri Connor (Michael), and nephew Robert Young (Kathy); brother-in-law Steve MacNamee (Mimi), nieces Lori Gilbert (Jim), Bonnie Levin (Frank), Tracy Quenzler (Andy), Kelly Davis (Bobby); cousins Jim Mudry (Debbie), Sue Farrell (Bill) and Karen Avil (Rich). His long-time friends Bruce and Billie Sareyka of Middletown DE were at his side during the final hours

Funeral Mass will be held at Saints Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, 6 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382 on Friday April 21, 2017 at noon. Visitation will occur at the church from 10:30am-11:30am preceding the mass.

A military interment is scheduled for Indian Town Gap National Cemetery. Immediate family requests privacy at this service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the VA Hospital of Coatesville 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320 (www.coatesville.va.gov ) or the American Heart Association.
