Walter G. Blevins, Jr. of West Chester, PA, passed away on Friday April 20, 2018 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester, PA. He was the husband of Jacqueline E (Griffith) Blevins, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Walter G and Eleanora (Keidel) Blevins. After serving in the U.S. Airforce from 1955 to 1959 in Rome, NY, as a plane mechanic, he returned to Chester County to work as a truck and small engine mechanic until his retirement in 2000.
He was the loving father to Jo Ann Hess (Robert) of Coatesville, Glenda Miller (Jay) of Mt. Joy, W. Glenn Blevins III of Downingtown, and Jeffrey A. Blevins (Cindy) of Parkesburg. In addition, he is survived by 6 grandchildren: Jena Braun (Nigel), Jason Miller, Jack Hess, Lindsay Blevins, Julie Hess, and Steven Blevins. In addition, he is survived by his only brother Milton Blevins of San Dimas, CA as well as many nieces and nephews.
Walt loved his home and loved to work in his garden. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t repair and was known for having built his own tractor (Big Red) from scratch. He loved Bluegrass music and especially loved to gather with his band The Corncobs to play the guitar and stand-up bass to practice, play, laugh and have fun.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 1, 2018 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, where family and friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Neighborhood Hospice 795 E. Marshall Street West Chester PA 19380 or to a charity of one’s choice.
