Vera E. Moore

October 24, 1924 ~ October 12, 2020 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Tribute

Vera Elizabeth (Francella) Moore, 95, of Downingtown, PA, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 12, 2020.

Vera was born on October 24, 1924.  She is survived by her children, Theresa E. Phipps, East Fallowfield, PA, Dennis F. Moore, Downingtown, PA, Patrick M. Moore, New Hope, PA, Robin A. Carney, Coatesville, PA, Beverly L. Cummings, Coatesville, PA; step-son, Jeffrey C. Moore of Philadelphia; and brother, John (Jack) Francella of Downingtown, PA.  Vera is also survived by her eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  She was preceded by her parents, Mary R. (Patella) Francella (Mimi) and John C. Francella, former husband, Francis J. Moore, son, Thomas J. Moore, brother, Frank Francella and sister, Teresa Francella.  Vera died on her son Tom’s birthday, October 12th and the service and interment was on her son Patrick’s birthday October 15, surely a true family event.

At age 90, Vera could no longer live on her own, imagine that.  Her son Dennis welcomed her into his home until serious illness began on October 4th.  Following a brief stay at Brandywine Hospital, daughter Beverly provided home hospice care until her passing.  Her children and brother circled the wagons around her with tender loving care the last several days of her long distinguished life.

A lifelong resident of Chester County, Vera attended Downingtown High School and was captain of her basketball team.  Vera loved sports especially baseball, she enjoyed Phillies baseball and rarely missed a game.  She enjoyed going to the casino with family and friends.  Vera played the ppiano and loved to sing, in particular her favorite song “I only have eyes for you.”  She won numerous singing competitions in her youth to include a talent contest and the Warner Theater in West Chester, PA.

Vera worked for many years at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Denny Reyburn Co. and Norcross, all within Chester County.  When Vera’s children were young the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” did not exist.  It was usual for women to stay at home while their husbands worked.  But even by the standards of the era, Vera was an exceptional Mother.  She dearly loved, cared and was very protective of her seven children.  She did not do this out of obligation, but because of who she was, a loving Mother.  She was always there at their time of needs and she always ensured that all of her children were safe, healthy and happy.

There are those that bring a light so bright, that even after their departure, the light remains.  Vera was that great light to her children and friends, and her smile and sense of humor warmed all their hearts. Vera’s mind was sharp and her memory was uncanny throughout her life.  Vera loved her children immensely and was deeply proud of their life accomplishments and successes.

Mother’s hold their children’s hands for a moment and their hearts for a lifetime.  Her children, brother, Jack and other family members will miss her and will hold her in their hearts for eternity.  The Blessed Mother was always by her side as long as anyone can remember.  May the Lord and Blessed Mother send comfort and blessings to the hearts of her family and find that path of bright light in this time with wonderful memories of a special, loving Mother.

Vera’s private memorial service was held on October 15th on the lawn of the James J. Terry Funeral Home and a graveside service was held afterwards at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Downingtown, PA.
