We Celebrate the life of Thaddeus D. Govan, Sr of Valley Township, Pa 19320.
Born March 4th,1930 to parents Justine Rembert and Julius H. Govan assured, as a child he was raised to respect and cherish the Words of God and His Scriptures. During his early years, Thaddeus invited Christ into his life… continuing to walk with the Lord through life journeys… he married in 1992 Dorothy Chanda after being married 35 years to The Late Verdi Blanche Williams. Sons, Thaddeus, Jr and Seth where of the marital union as they blended families giving him the daughter (he always wanted) Tasila (Patrick), Thomas (adopted son) and Chanda, son born through the current marriage.
Everyone will agree Thaddeus, a very devoted man, husband, father, brother and mentor. Growing up, attending Ben Franklin High he decided to transfer to Bok Vocational Technical High School where he excelled in Upholstery art and design skills.
Service with a smile as a soldier, a Korean War veteran he left the US Air Force with an Honorary Discharge. Thaddeus developed mechanical and electrical skills servicing aircrafts. After military service Thaddeus with an independent spirit and zest for self sovereignty opened a barbershop and acquired licensing in Barber Management.
We adored …Elder Govan with his multi talents and skills, always emphasized “continue learning” by his own examples. While he loved upholstery, managing barbers, he enrolled as a student at Philadelphia Wireless Technical Institute to learn new concepts. Until an opportunity to work for the largest transportation organization SEPTA offered him a career that lasted 18 years, retiring as a Certified HVAC Specialist in 1996.
Serving God and His Countryman, Thaddeus remained a loyal member over 70 years at Philadelphia Mother Bethel AME Church. During the past seven decades he gladly served on church committees, like Barbershop Sunshine Clubs, Richard Allen Fed Credit Union, National Business League, as usher, Laymen, VP South Carolina Club, VP of Host & Hostess Club, Trustee, and Mother Bethel’s Male Chorus.
Blessed with many gifts in life, made him a wise counselor and great listener. While in the Barbershop business Thaddeus invented Delvan Products, a product line for hai he leaves as a legacy for his Children’s children to develop, market and profit.
