Stanley A. Barr Jr.

Stanley A. Barr, Jr, 80, of Downingtown, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Harrison Senior Living of Christiana.

He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth M. Barr (nee Millis) with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

Stanley A. Barr, Jr. was born on April 2, 1939 in Meadville, Pennsylvania as the only child to the late Stanley A. Barr, Sr. and Margaret Blanchard. Stanley took an early interest in music and played trumpet in his high school band. After graduating from Saegertown High School, he attended Edinboro Teachers College for two years, where he studied English and Biology.  

Stanley also continued to play the trumpet in the college marching band (he even got to meet President Nixon at one of the band events). He eventually discovered photography, and transferred to the Antonelli School of Photography in Philadelphia. After finishing school, Stanley went to work for Charles B. Mills and Sons, while also dong freelance work and photographic equipment sales.

Stanley served his country in the Marine Reserves in the 1960's. He was an active member of the Downingtown Rotary in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

After twenty-five years of working in the field of photography, Stanley decided to pursue something different and took a job for three years as a school bus driver for handicapped children.
 
Stanley had been a resident at Harrison House for 3 ½ years. He attended activities daily, enjoyed socializing with friends, and served as the Resident Council President.
 
Stanley is survived by his three children; Stanley A. Barr III (Suzanne), Douglas J. Barr (Lorraine), and Amy E. Shaffer (Brian), along with six grandchildren; Branden, Zachary, Emily, Rian, Keegan and Thomas.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 18, 2019, 11:00 am at the James J. Terry Funeral Home 736 E. Lancaster Ave. Downingtown, PA 19335. Family and friends may call from 10:00 am - 10:45 am.
