"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.  It's about learning to dance in the rain."
Vivian Greene

Samuel Tiller Smith, 34, died at home on Friday, November 24, 2017.  He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Corry, his two brothers, Sean and Jeb, and a large and loving extended family.  Sam is loved in death as much as he was in life.

Sam touched the life of many people.  He embraced individuals from all strata of society, accepted them on thier individual merit and never lost faith in their possibilty.  Sam listened to, encouraged, and believed in all of us. His kindness, empathy, and gentleness will be sorely missed.  Although his complexities often made life difficult for him, Sam was a warrior and fiercely fought for life with a strength that inspired all of us.  Graced with an intelligent, talented, and creative mind, Sam found his expression in his painting, writings, and music. His smile was infectious,  his charm apparent, and his humor ever present.  Sam was a gift we held onto for 34 years. Our memories of him will be ones of laughter and love.

A private service and blessing will be held on Saturday, December 2nd.  On Sunday, friends of Sam and his family will gather together at 11:00 am in Valley Creek Park, 361 N. Morehall Road in Malvern.  Please join us in our celebration of Sam.

In lieu of flowers or a charitable donation, we ask that you honor Sam in gestures that were a reflection of him. If you know of a struggling single parent, a neighbor, or friend, quietly give them what you can afford and tell them that this is from Sam.  Take the time to listen to the lonely, the people in pain, and those who are lost, and with gesture or word, knowing that you do this from Sam. Allow people second chances, be forgiving, and above all give everyone the dignity they deserve.  Sam did. Gather your family together, hold them tightly, and cherish the moments you have with them. That was Sam's fortune. Most of all, celebrate the wonder that was Sam with joy and laughter, and dance, just dance.
