Ronald E. Sokso Sr., 69, of Narvon, PA (formerly of Downingtown, PA) passed away on Thursday, November 16 2017 at Manor Care in King of Prussia after a brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer. He was born in Coatesville, PA to the late George and Elizabeth (Townsley) Sokso. After a long career as a commercial truck driver and CDL Instructor, he enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family and friends. Even in retirement, though, he continued to enjoy logging many hours behind the wheel, as a van driver for Heatherwood Senior Living, personal chauffeur to his late wife, Mary, and providing taxi service to his grandchildren for their many activities. Recently the majority of his time was spent enjoying rides on his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his son and other family members and friends.
Ron enjoyed studying and participating in the Native American culture and spiritual practices. He loved spending time with his family and close friends, always making a point to attend as many of his grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals and school activities that he could. His life revolved around his family and he would do anything for them, dropping whatever he was doing to help when needed.
He is preceded in death by his loving late wife, Mary J. (Mascher) Sokso with whom he shared 17 years of marriage. Ron is survived by his and Mary's children, Ronald E. Sokso Jr., of Pottstown, PA, Diane Sokso of Clearwater, FL., Mary Ann Pirrello of St. Louis, MO., Sean O’Keefe of Exton, PA, Kevin O’Keefe of York, PA and Shannon O’Keefe of Downingtown, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Kook, and brothers Richard, Kenneth, Donald (Doc) and Michael Sokso. He is preceded in death by his late sister, Barbara. Ron and Mary had the joy of sharing 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held on Monday, November 27, beginning promptly at 11 am at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA.
