Roderick “Rod” Robertson, Jr., age 62, of Downingtown, PA, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018, at home surrounded by family from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Rod was born in Philadelphia, PA to Frances (McDonald) Robertson and the late Roderick A. Robertson, Sr. Rod was raised in Churchville, Bucks County, graduating from Council Rock High School in 1973. Rod resided in South Jersey, prior to relocating to Downingtown, PA last year with his wife Kay.
Prior to his retirement, Rod was employed with the State of New Jersey as a Principal Parole Counselor for the State Parole Board then as a Classification Officer for the Department of Corrections. Rod was very proud of his Scottish and Irish heritage, having had the opportunity to travel to Scotland in 2015. He was an avid reader and history buff. When his children were younger, Rod volunteered at Liberty Bell Youth Organization in Northeast Philadelphia where he helped coach baseball and football. During his time at Liberty Bell, Rod received an award from the City of Philadelphia for assisting in winning the Junior Baseball Federation for 10-12 year olds. Rod also served as the President of the Youth Organization for almost 10 years. Rod loved watching sports, especially the Eagles, Phillies and Flyers.
Rod is preceded in death by his father Roderick A. Robertson, Sr. Rod is survived and missed by his mother Frances Robertson; wife Kay, who shared 20 years together; his three children, Stephanie (Shane) Giel, Amy (Bill) Kronberger, Roderick “Rob” Robertson, III, and stepdaughter Kelly (Greg) Brunetta; his grandchildren, Colin, Gavin, and Owen Giel, Julianna and Olivia Kronberger, Roderick "Robbie" Robertson, IV, Jackson and Parker Brunetta; four siblings Karen (Scott) Markloff, Kenneth Robertson, Cheryl Robertson, and Christine (Thomas) Romeo; many nieces and nephews, and loving extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to Rod’s funeral services on Friday, October 19, 2018, 11am, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335, where family and friends will be received from 10am-11am. Interment is private.
