Robert Lee Stambaugh, 80, passed away peacefully at home with his daughter June by his side on May 3, 2019. He was the son of the late Milton and Gladys Stambaugh (Stevens), and the loving husband of 56 years to Mary Frances Stambaugh (nee Kelly), until her passing in July 2018.
Robert worked for Rohm & Haas his entire career as a chemist and was internationally recognized for his numerous patents and accomplishments in the petroleum industry. During his retirement, Robert and Mary enjoyed traveling to many destinations including Japan, London, Barbados and Hawaii to name a few.
Throughout his busy professional life, Robert always made his family a priority as highlighted by his attendance at every home and away college basketball game for his daughter June. Both Mary and Bob were avid hikers and horticulturalists who were often seen cutting invasive vines while hiking through Tyler State Park and other local hiking trails. Cooking for his family was also pleasurable for Robert although he insisted on having a fine wine with his culinary creations.
The perfect end of the day for Robert was to get comfortable in his lounge chair and read a good book from Tom Clancy, James Patterson, John Grisham or the like.
Robert is survived by his daughter, June Stambaugh, and brother David Stambaugh, and his grandson Lucas Stambaugh
In addition to his parents and wife, Mary, Robert is preceded in death by his son Mark Stambaugh
In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s honor can be made to Nature Conservancy.
