Robert “Bob” L. Milliken, Jr., 77, of Coatesville passed away on November 15, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Milliken with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in South Bend, Indiana, he was the son of the late Winifred (Milliken) Lant and Robert L. Milliken, Sr.
He served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1970 and was deployed in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. After active duty he attended Charleston Institute of Technology and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college and moving to Pennsylvania, he served four years in the Active Reserves. Throughout his professional career Bob served in various leadership positions and at the time of his retirement was president of Underground Services, a subsurface utility engineering firm. Post-retirement, he stayed within the industry working with InfraMap Corp as a consultant.
He was an active member of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) and served as Delaware Valley president in 2007-2008. Bob also was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers where he received the ‘Engineering Manager of the Year’ award in 2012.
In the spirit of service, after his retirement, Bob served pro bono as the Interim Executive Director of the Chester County Association for the Blind and was an active member of the Coatesville Area Lions Club, serving as the president from 2016-2017.
Bob was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church and has served on various committees during his 45 years as a member and served as a member of the trustees.
He was a member of the Brandywine-Goddard Lodge #383, as well as the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Reading, Pennsylvania. He also served as president of the Chester County Consistory Club, a division of the Scottish Rite.
As a proud veteran, he was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Vietnam Veterans of America organizations. He loved boating and held a U.S. Coast Guard Captains License along with a 100 ton, Masters Certificate.
By virtue of the admirable and generous accomplishments above, Bob epitomized service, family, friendship, and patriotism. He is a true hero to all who have known him.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his children: Lori Burns (Chris), and Rob Milliken (Melanie); a beloved granddaughter, Brenna Burns; brothers: Keith Lant (Peggy), John Milliken (Karen), Mike Milliken (Kari); sisters: Sandy Ellis, Donna Wysocki (Mike), and Janet Simbeck (Donny); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Paul Lant.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 pm until 6 pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, PA
A private Memorial Service will be held with the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Olivet United Methodist Church, Coatesville or the Masonic Dyslexia Center for Children, Reading, PA.
