Robert Edward Hanks, age 86, passed away on October 18, 2018. Bob was at his home in Downingtown, PA surrounded by his loving family. Bob was the beloved husband of Loretta, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. He was a member of Thorndale United Methodist Church, Thorndale, PA.
Born in Richmond, VA. Bob was the youngest of twelve children born to Charles and Ruth Daniel Hanks. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, and attended William and Mary College.
Bob served in the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He received the National Defense Service and the Good Conduct Medals.
Bob served in many capacities within the sales department with Allstate Insurance for 40 years serving, the Southeastern Pennsylvania region. He was well-liked and respected by the many sales people and staff he worked with, some of whom he trained and mentored.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly (Kenneth) Kramer and son, Todd (Rev. Deborah Gildart-Hanks) Hanks. Bob was an adoring grandfather to Katy, Sarah, Joshua, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Chris and Michael.
He loved animals, spending many hours working with a dog walking service enjoying long walks and playing with the animals. His greatest love was his grandchildren bringing him much joy and happiness.
Bob was always willing to help neighbors and friends. He will be missed for his friendly nature and the joy he brought to everyone.
Family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday, October 23rd from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at Thorndale United Methodist Church, 3503 Lincoln Hwy., Thorndale, PA 19372 where his memorial service will take place at 2 p.m.
