Robert R. Grim

On Sunday, January 10, 2021, Robert R. Grim, loving husband and father of three, passed away at the age of 57.

Born in Mineola, NY, Rob was the oldest son of Richard and Carole Grim. A college athlete, he graduated from King’s College, Wilkes Barre, PA. In May of 2000, he married his best friend, Kim Szymura. They raised two sons, Tyler and Dylan, and a daughter Peyton, and their beloved dogs, Coco, Oakley, and “Shammy.” He received an EMBA from the University of Notre Dame in 2014, and practiced business finance for over 30 years.

Rob had a passion for basketball and for helping his community. Rob led the 1982 Downingtown Whippets basketball team to its best record in school history at 25-5. He volunteered and coached for West Side Little League, Henderson High School, Downingtown East High School and Westtown School. He previously served for seven years as an executive board member for West Side Little League and was a delegate for The American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink Campaign of Philadelphia.

Rob was also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Boston Red Sox, the Dallas Cowboys and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was known for his quick wit, enormous heart, and his fiercely competitive spirit.

Preceded in death by his father, Richard, and his mother, Carole. He is survived by his wife Kim; children, Tyler, Dylan, and Peyton; brother, Raymond (Dafni); and step-mother Dorothy Grim. Rob will also be forever remembered by his cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. 

A service in Memory of Rob will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church of Downingtown, 332 Manor Avenue, Downingtown, PA. Interment will be held in the spring at Notre Dame, Indiana.  Due to current COVID-19 restrictions all attendees are required to wear a face mask or covering and maintain social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rob Grim Athletic Scholarship, B. Reed Henderson High School. Donations can be made by Venmo @RGrimScholarship or by check payable to Rob Grim Memorial Athletic Scholarship, 813 Kenmara Dr., West Chester, PA 19380.

As we celebrate the life of Rob let us share his Irish pride as we “Rally sons and daughters” in our best fighting Irish apparel to say our goodbyes. Please wear your favorite Notre Dame or Boston Red Sox apparel or colors to help us send Rob our loving best.
