Richard E. Ide

September 22, 1927 ~ December 29, 2019 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Richard E Ide (Dick), 92, of Chester Springs, PA passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at home.

He was the beloved husband of the late Annetta Cruze Ide, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2002.  Born in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late Thomas N. and Mary Ross Ide.

He proudly served his country as an officer in the US Army’s Corps of Engineers during the Korean Conflict.  Dick graduated from University of Maryland where he studied mechanical engineering.  He accomplished a wide range of jobs including working as an engineer for Kobe Inc. before opening his own business Britton Technology. Dick was also a member of the Freemasons for over 60 years.

In his twenties, he spent every weekend racing in regattas out of Avalon.  Actively involved in Boy Scouts, Dick served as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 78.  Dick was a lifelong learner who continually challenged himself! He had many interests including soaring, classical music, and an incredible skill for designing tools and devices that could be used to fix anything and everything!  He had a love of cars, Jaguars in particular.  Dick was proud of his family and lived at his self-built home in Chester Springs for over 50 years with his dogs, daughter, and two grandchildren. He will be dearly missed not only as step-in father, but also as a staple image in the aisles of Home Depot with his infamous English Bulldog, Hobbes.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Kimberly I. Dewey, his son Richard E. Ide, Jr, his grandchildren Bronwyn V. Dewey (26), Cameron B. Dewey (23), Andrew R. Ide (26) and Ethan A. Ide (25).  One of six, he has two surviving siblings William Keith Ide (97) and Mary Ellen Ide Evans (90).
