Tribute

Ralph Waldo Emerson, Jr., 88, of Glenmoore, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Neighborhood Hospice of West Chester surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Barbara Hover Emerson, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Born in Ridley Park, Pa, he was the son of the late Ralph Waldo Emerson, Sr. and Anna Hauger Emerson.

A graduate of Sharon Hill High School, Ralph went on to receive his B.S. in pharmacology from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences.  He spent his entire career until retirement as a pharmacist even owning his own corner drug store in Narberth, PA.  Outside of work, he had a passion for photography and spent many enjoyable hours behind the lens capturing his grandchildren’s sporting events, the beauty of nature, and plays while on the sidelines of the USFL Philadelphia Stars. He also had a number of photos chosen to be used on greeting cards while others were winners of contests. Ralph also took pleasure in woodworking creating many projects for his family and friends, and was an avid gardener meticulously growing vegetables and flowers.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife with the destinations most treasured navigating to Alaska and through the Panama Canal.  Ralph had a love of big band music including Glenn Miller, Jimmy & Tommy Dorsey, and Les Brown & his Band of Renown.  Sunday mornings, Ralph enjoyed his cup of coffee and the comic section of the paper seeking out Calvin & Hobbs, Family Circus, and Hager the Horrible.

Ralph treasured time spent with his family and friends and will be remembered for his sense of humor and willingness to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by his beloved children, Lynne Bates (Michael) and Ralph W. Emerson, III (Debi); 6 grandchildren, Jordan (Tyler) Drumheller, Devin and Madison Davenport, Bradley and Samantha Emerson and Claire (Trevor) Maldonado and by 1 great granddaughter, Harper Drumheller.
