Philomena I. Bruno, 89, of Downingtown, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Downingtown, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Elisa Lupiddia Ippolito.
She worked as a waitress at the Exton Diner from 1963-1966. From 1963-1980, she worked for the Borough of Downingtown as a School Crossing Guard, Meter Maid and part time Police Woman and worked part time at Charles News Agency for 5 years. She also worked from 1965-1992 at Harowe Servo before retiring as a Supervisor in the Assembly Department.
Philomena volunteered for many organizations in Downingtown including as a Majority Inspector at Minquas Fire Company Election Polls. She was a long-time member of the Alert Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary serving as Vice President for 2 years and Financial Secretary for 10 years and of the St. Anthony’s Lodge Ladies Auxiliary serving as Vice President from 2001-2003. She was a life-time member of St. Joseph Church in Downingtown.
She is survived by her children, Anthony J. Bruno, Jr. (Donna Marie), Elizabeth Ann Cozzone and Philip H. Bruno (Christine); a sister, Adella Powell; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Armando J. Ippolito, Sr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Avenue, Downingtown, where family and friends will be received from 9:15-10:15 a.m.
Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church at the above address.
