Patricia Hart Smith

Patricia Hart Smith, 90, of Downingtown, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at her daughter’s home. She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Smith, Sr., with whom she shared 57 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2008.

Born in Downingtown, she was the daughter of the late George A. Hart, Sr. and Elizabeth Park Hart.

Patricia graduated from St. Agnes High School in West Chester. She went on to graduate from West Chester State Teacher’s College (now WCU) with a BS in education. She spent most of her teaching career as a 4th grade teacher at Lionville Elementary School, where the children she worked with filled her heart and changed her life. Patricia was a lifelong learner. She was a long time member of the Prime Timers at St. Joseph’s church in Downingtown, where she wrote their newsletter and taught woodcarving.

Patricia was never happier than when she was teaching, whether it was at school, at home or in the community; whether it was sparking a child’s creativity or interest in reading; or teaching crafts, such as sewing, painting, needlework, or woodcarving. She also taught compassion, cooperation, fairness, the importance of helping others and the meaning of family. She did this with grace, kindness and love.

Patricia is survived by her children, Loraine Noble and her husband David, Donna Fahrenholtz and her husband Chip, Amy Moser and her husband John, and William Smith and his wife Bonnie; a brother, Robert Hart; 11 grandchildren, Jonathan, Alexandra and Jacob Noble, Benjamin, Zachary and Nicholas Fahrenholtz, Stephanie Hepfl, Samantha Cornelius, Jennifer Bryson, Kathleen and Alyssa Smith. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren; Molly and Grace Jones, Isabel Cornelius, Garrett Hepfl, Colin Bryson and Luke Fahrenholtz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Church, 332 Manor Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Interment will be private with the family.
