Patricia C. Holenstein (nee Joslin) of Heatherwood Retirement  Community, Honey Brook, Pa., formerly a long-time resident of Fredon Township, Sussex County, NJ, died peacefully Saturday, July 27, 2019 after gracefully fighting a 20-year battle with lymphoma.

Raised in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, Pat summered at Lake Iliff, Andover, NJ where she met Robert Louis Holenstein.  Bob married the Barbizon Model some years later, becoming her beloved husband of 61 years.

A young mother of five boys in the early 1960’s, Pat was active in the Junior Women’s Auxiliary at Newton Memorial Hospital, Cub Scouting as a Den Mother, and an avid supporter of the Newton Little Braves Football program.  Pat graduated William Paterson College with a degree in Education – Library/Media Specialist and taught at Merriam Ave School in Newton, Harmony Elementary School, and Saint Joseph’s School, also in Newton.  She loved to read to her kids and the children of others.  Pat’s professional accomplishments included a position as comptroller for a computer company start-up owned by two of her sons.

Pat’s love of books eventually resulted in her publishing “Whalemen of the Josephine”, a story of adventure on the high seas.  Pat loyally and energetically supported her sons and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits and was easily recognized by the clanking of her cow bell.  She never uttered an unkind word to an umpire or referee but could be counted on to stand behind her family.   She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and loved watercolor painting.

Daughter of the late John and Bernice Joslin, Pat is survived by her husband Robert, predeceased by her oldest son Jeffrey, and survived by her other four sons Michael and wife Penny  of Fredon Township, NJ; Bruce and wife Denise of Media, PA;  Paul and wife Karen of Downingtown, PA; and William (Bill) and wife Jennifer of Downingtown, PA; thirteen grandchildren Tiffany Mendez (nee Holenstein), Dylan, Clinton, Michael Drew, Miles, Charles, Bradley and wife Caroline, Paden, Alice, Amanda, Courtney, Brianna, and Gunther, all Holensteins, and one great-grandchild, Sonya.  She is also survived by her siblings Joyce Behrens, Marilyn Roth, John Joslin, Gregory Joslin and Dorothea Killian.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home in Downingtown, PA from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 2, 2019 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 24 Halsted Street, Newton, NJ 07860.  Interment following the service is private.
