Nelda H. Kring, age 85, of Downingtown, PA passed away on December 23, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Arnold M. Kring with whom she shared 64 years of marriage.

Born in Gordo, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Joel L. and Wilma Hardin Howell.
Nelda was a 1950 valedictorian graduate of Gordo High School. She went on to receive her degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Alabama in 1954 and completed coursework for her Masters degree at Auburn University.

She worked at the Chester County Intermediate Unit Child Development Center as a Home Economics teacher and then later served as an Educational Therapist at the Coatesville VA Medical Center, retiring in 2003.

For 58 years, Nelda was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Downingtown, PA where she served in many ministries, including teaching Sunday School, the Passion Play and United Methodist Women. Nelda lived her faith every day on the understanding that you “Preach the Gospel at all times. If necessary, use words.” She was an expert seamstress who found joy in making clothes for all four of her daughters and a pianist who loved playing hymns. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

In addition to her husband, Arnold, she is survived by daughters, Kathy Kring Boyle (Joe), Julie Ann Kring, Rebecca Kring Brain (Simon), Melinda Kring and son, David E. Cauley (Sandy). She is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for Nelda on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 1:00 pm from Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Road, Downingtown, PA where friends may gather and reminisce with the family beginning at 12:00 noon until time of service.

Internment, private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to Hopewell United Methodist Church or The First United Methodist Church of Gordo, 310 N. Main Street, Gordo, AL 35466
