Miriam Wise Arters

Miriam Ruth Wise Arters, age 90, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the wife of the late Daniel J. Arters, Jr. who passed away in 2017 with whom she shared 69 years of marriage.  Born in  Charlestown, Pa on August 2, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Irvin Wise Sr. and Miriam (Walton) Wise.

Miriam was a busy and hardworking woman.  She held a calm demeanor, but knew how to crack a joke and make people laugh.  She enjoyed the beauty of nature and loved gardening, riding motorcycle, reading, playing cards, crocheting and the occasional trip to the casinos.  Her favorite hobby was collecting depression glass.  Miriam’s true pride and joy was spending time with her family.

Miriam is survived and missed by her children: Susan Roth, Nancy Detwiler (Ron), Raymond Arters Sr, Paul Arters (Christine), June Martin (John), and daughter-in-law Joann Arters, 10 grandchildren; Shannon Roth, Dana Hutton, Kevin Arters, Jeffery Arters, Raymond Arters Jr., Timothy Arters Sr., Holly Stong, Wendy Herb, Jake Arters, Jamie Martin and 7 Great grandchildren; Darrin and Emily Arters, Rayah and Adayln Arters, Timothy and Travis Arters and Lucas Herb. She is also survived by 2 sisters; Myrtle Coale and Joan Yerger and many nieces and nephews.  She was looking forward to meeting her 8th great grandchild in October. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son Daniel J. Arters III “Reds”, son-in-law Gerald Roth, 6 siblings; Irvin Wise Jr., Pauline Wise, Arlene Grey, William Wise Sr., Robert Wise Sr., and Linda Wise.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Miriam’s funeral services on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at 2:30PM, at the Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Rd, Downingtown, PA, where friends may call from 1-2PM. Burial will immediately follow at Hopewell Church Cemetery, Downingtown.
