Mary Kathryn, “Kathy” (Spaulding) McNichol, age 86, of Oaks, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2021.

Born in Vermont, Kathy graduated from the University of Richmond in 1956. That same year, she married Thomas F. “Tom” McNichol of Philadelphia. She and Tom lived for a time in Delaware County with their three children before settling in Montgomery County. An active member of St. Teresa of Avila parish in Valley Forge, PA, Kathy began teaching at the parish school in 1972. She remained a beloved teacher there for 25 years, during which time she earned her master’s degree in education from Villanova University.

Kathy lived a life of humility and good deeds. An avid volunteer, she lent her time and efforts to supporting the needs of her church, delivering meals to senior citizens, knitting hats for babies born prematurely and keying in pages of data to create the Valley Forge Muster Roll Project. In a world too often laced with cynicism, Kathy stood out for her positive outlook, genuine interest in the lives of others, and magnificent heart. She always put others first.

Preceded in death by her husband, Tom, and her brother, Donald Spaulding, Kathy is survived by her three children, Laura (Tom) Pyne, Tom McNichol Jr., and Eileen (Bob) McVety; seven grandchildren, Chris Pyne, Jim (Jen) Pyne, John (Laura) Pyne, Kathleen Pyne, and Mark (Amanda) Pyne, Molly McVety, and Erin McVety; and seven great-grandchildren, Colin Pyne, Lucas Pyne, Maddy Pyne, Andrew Pyne, Virginia Pyne, Gavin Pyne, Levi Pyne, and another great-grandchild due in July; as well as her step-sister, Ann Tanner of Clearwater, Florida.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 26, 2021 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1260 S. Trooper Road, Norristown, PA 19403.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Teresa of Avila Church or to the Ronald McDonald House, 745 W. Governor Rd., Hershey PA 17033.
