Mary Kirwan

Mary Kirwan, 78, of Downingtown, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Donegal, Ireland, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Devlin Ward.

She came to America with her Aunt Helen in the early 60’s and enrolled into Nursing School in New York City.  It was during this time that Mary met the love of her life, Brendan Kirwan, who was playing in a Hurling match at Gaelic Park. They were married on April 4, 1965 at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church in the Bronx, NY and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

Mary was an avid reader, enjoyed scenic car rides and spending time outdoors. She also loved to dance and listen to music by Andrea Bocelli, Neil Diamond and Engelbert Humperdinck.

She was very outgoing and had a great personality; but above all, Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud “Nanny”.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kirwan is survived by her children, Kevin Kirwan, Thomas Kirwan, Stephen Kirwan (Lori) and Pauline March (Justin) and grandchildren, Josh, McKenna, Chase, Ryan, Maggie and Paul. She is also survived by her brothers, Johnny, Vincent, and Michael Ward and sisters, Lena Friel, Kathleen McClafferty, and Alice Flanagan.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Thomas Ward.

A morning visitation will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022 from 10 to 10:45 am at St. Joseph Church, 332 Manor Ave., Downingtown, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. 

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken.
