Margaret Geddis Schmidt

Margaret Geddis Schmidt, 69, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. We hope that she got to ride a beautiful palomino horse, and was greeted by her adoring husband George Arthur Schmidt, who passed away in 2002.

Born in New York, NY on July 16, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Dr. James T. and Alice (Doherty) Geddis, Knight and Lady of the Holy Sepulchre. Margaret was proud to be from the Bronx, specifically Throggs Neck where she was a parishioner at Saint Benedict’s Parish. She was an avid equestrian, and was a Villa girl who attended Villa Maria Academy (NYC), Saint Raymond's Academy For Girls, and then went on to Marymount University in Georgetown, VA as well as Albany, NY. She went on to work as a compassionate nurse, and was Vice President of IBS Inc., but her main life’s work and purpose was mother to her girls, and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Downingtown. Throughout her life, she was a member of Whitford Country Club, Pennypacker Country Club, Saint Joseph Parish Stewardship Committee, Saint Joseph Parish PREP Program, a supporter and contributor of Bishop Shanahan High School Downingtown campus, was actively involved in many community and parish works, and was an avid supporter of Charitable Organizations. She spent summers in Surfside Beach, South Carolina, by her husband’s side fishing, as well as laughing and making memories with her daughters. Later in her life, she loved every moment possible with her grandchildren on outings and adventures, or just having little tea parties and manicure sessions with her granddaughters, and “fishing” via facetime calls with her grandsons.

Surviving are her four daughters Mary Amy, wife of Brandon Wallace, of Malvern, PA, Cara Anne Schmidt, fiancée of Alexander Fierro, of San Jose, CA, Kathryn Alice, wife of Daniel Cole, of Downingtown, PA, and Susan Marie, wife of Brian Warner, of Spring City, PA; and her grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness, Francie, Jack, Seamus, Chip, Norah, Molly, Peter, Ali, Penny & Junie; siblings Anne, wife of Col. Steven Harman, Rita, wife of Peter Overzat ESQ, and James Geddis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 10:15 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 332 Manor Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335. There will be no visitation prior to the mass. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Downingtown. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Margaret to Natural Lands as she believed in preserving open space and wildlife for her grandchildren, as well as future generations.
