Tribute

Julia Jane Pollock, 97, of Downingtown, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Simpson Meadows.  She was the daughter of the late Charles and Lillian DiVincenzo.  Julia was the widow of Fred M. Pollock, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.  They met in first grade at the West Ward School, now the site of Messiah Lutheran Church.  She was a life member of the church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married.

Julia attended Downingtown Schools, receiving the American Legion School Award; was a member of band, orchestra and chorus; and National Honor Society.  She graduated with her husband Fred in the class of 1941.  As a member of the Downingtown Alumni Association she received the Distinguished Service Award.  Julia continued her education, graduating from Temple University School of Nursing; received a BS in Public School Nursing from West Chester University and an MA in Counselor Education from Villanova University.

She proudly served in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, where she was stationed in Philadelphia, San Diego and Guam.  While in Guam she directed the maritime choir.  She received recognition from the American Red Cross for 46 years of service as a member of the military, Branch Chairman and Disaster Chairman.  Julia was an active member of American Legion Post 475 of Downingtown. 

Julia was employed by the Downingtown Area School District as school nurse and later elementary guidance counselor.  Her hobbies included knitting, cross stitch, gardening and traveling.

Julia is survived by her sons, Fred M. Pollock, Jr., his wife, Joy and their daughter, Alana; and Stuart C. Pollock.  She is also survived by her brother, Robert and his wife and 3 children of Medford, N.J.; and dear friend, Lorraine Keener.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Julia’s memory to Messiah Lutheran Church, of Downingtown.
