Joseph Frank Macri

July 29, 1927 ~ September 10, 2018 (age 91)

 

Joseph F. Macri, 91, passed away peacefully the morning of September 10, 2018.  Born in Brooklyn on July 29, 1927, he was the son of Pasquale and Josephine (nee D’Angelo). After graduation from Brooklyn Technical High School, he volunteered during the Second World War for service as a radioman with the United States Navy. A loving husband, he raised his family on Staten Island with Marianna (“Marion”), who predeceased him in 1973, and then with Ingeborg (“Inge”), who predeceased him in 1991. Joe spent his retirement years in Lakewood, NJ and, more recently, in Downingtown, PA as a beloved resident of Simpson Meadows.

 

For 25 years, Joe served his City as a member of the New York Police Department. After years of investigating homicides and other major crimes, he retired in 1976 with the rank of Sergeant Detective. Joe then spent more than 20 years in commercial aviation security, holding senior positions with American Airlines, TWA and, ultimately, British Airways where he served as head of Security for North America. This second career enabled Joe to work and take vacations around the globe.

 

Most of all, Joe’s life was defined by his devotion to and service of his family as a loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.  Joe is survived by his sons, Robert (Carol); Stephen (Theresa) and Charles (Cynthia); his sister Marion; his grandchildren, Marianna Reilly (Sean), Jacqueline, Joseph and Francesca; and great grandchildren, Rocco and Rosanna. In addition to his parents, his brother Frank and sister Betty predeceased him.

 

Joe’s life will be remembered and celebrated on Wednesday, September 12, 2018. Friends and family may visit from 8:15 am to 9:45 am at Colonial Funeral Home, 2819 Hylan Boulevard at Tysens Lane on Staten Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:15 am at Saint Charles Church, 200 Penn Ave at Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island. Interment will be at Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island.
